Ann Widdecombe a voice in the wilderness

Ann Widdecombe, RIP

Faithful Catholic and as outspoken voice in the wilderness of the

modern media, and political arena

Ann Widdecombe official portrait 2019

It is perhaps not surprising that Ann Widdecombe converted to the Catholic faith; she was fearless in the face of criticism and unafraid to stand for the truth and proclaim traditional family values. And it was being a faithful Christian that made her leave the Church of England, stating that “I left the Church of England because there was a huge bundle of straw. The ordination of women was the last straw, but it was only one of many. For years, I had been disillusioned by the Church of England's compromising on everything. The Catholic Church doesn't care if something is unpopular.”

She knew nonsense when she saw or heard it and was not afraid to speak up for family values, especially against far-left and LGBT totalitarianism. She consistently opposed further reforms to the age of consent that gave equal rights to homosexuals. She wanted to protect vulnerable young men from predatory homosexual culture. She was one of the last British politicians of note who spoke with conviction; her Christian faith governed everything she said. She was also very funny and self-deprecating, and this, despite her strong and outspoken views, made her a loved national treasure.

Perhaps it is predictable that the darlings of the left and the national mainstream media actually posted sick social media statements celebrating her death. One of the nastiest came from “Gay” rights campaigner Peter Tatchell posting on X, “She opposed every gay law reform for 40 years, supporting every legal discrimination against LGBTs. … She also backed bids to ‘cure’ homosexuality & said people should have the right to discriminate against LGBT, BIGOT!”  We say bigot yourself, Mr Tatchell! The Socialist Worker newspaper went one step further in their disgusting headline, stating “Hurrah! Ann Widdecombe is strictly dead”. Given that Ann Widdecombe was receiving death threats and was murdered, should these people be prosecuted under the hate speech laws? Peter Tatchell has deleted his X post and apologised (sort of) but only because of the backlash.

Devon and Cornwall Police were quick to state that they are looking for a “white” male; these days, police are always quick to note when a white male is involved.

Ann Widdecombe, a great lady and faithful Christian, may she rest in peace.
