One Battle after Another
Hollywood
at its most subversive?
Every year, Hollywood comes up with a film that’s so
outrageous that it’s almost funny, almost, even when it is a
comedy, well, almost. Last year, we had the ridiculous Emilia Perez about a
Trans woman gangster who was portrayed as virtually a saint. This year, we have
something just as silly: the dark comedy One
Battle after Another, directed by
Paul Thomas Anderson. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Bob, a washed-up revolutionary
whose daughter, Willa, is being pursued by the villain, Colonel Steven Lockjaw.
Bob’s daughter is actually Colonel Lockjaw’s child, and he wants to kill her
because she is from a black mother – Bob’s ex-wife. Lockjaw is a white
supremacist and can’t have a black daughter, you see, or his white supremacist
credentials would be compromised, and his membership in the far-right Christmas Adventurers Club would be over. (Note: Hollywood portrays anything
with Christian connotations as far-right Nazis this year.)
Cardboard cut
Far-Right Christian baddies and DEI, lesbian good guys – Phew, I almost went to
see it after watching the trailer – however, the reviewers saved me – thank you
Critical Drinker, however, I
do wish you would swear.
The film has everything DEI in it, Lesbianism, Gay Pride
Marches, White Supremacist baddies, and Black Supremacist goodies. The
revolutionaries are blowing up, and it appears they are killing ICE immigration
police.
One of the most memorable images from this film shows a
heavily pregnant woman firing a Machine gun! Too silly.
